Here is Liz. How they do grow.

Here is a bit of breakfast. The recipe for the yogurt spread is from Tessa Kiros’ book “Apples for Jam”. I received it interlibrary loan, but it is one I want to own. I’ve had it since Friday and have already tried two of the recipes.

Another week flies by…

I can hardly believe it is Friday evening and I am just getting around to posting again. Tuesday was a lovely day. Perfect enough for our first picnic of the year on our front porch.

In between school, work and rain, this week was outside cleaning out flower beds, making new ones -with borders- so Matheau will know where to/and not mow. Something I have failed to do in past years. Also putting more vegetables in the garden.  Today we met up with a nearby home school group and sang some songs at a nursing home and played at a park. It is always refreshing to hang out with families that also home school, I just wish it wasn’t so hard to fit into any of our schedules…  Have a wonderful weekend everyone. Maybe next week I will be around a bit more often. ;)

Earth Day.

To celebrate Earth Day, we moved the chicks to one of their chicken runners. Not really, one is just finished and I am really hoping the rain stays away. We moved the hens (and I think one rooster) out to their house Saturday morning. It is nice to have my kitchen back, although I have been taking every opportunity to visit them.

The spring flowers and trees have been showing their colors this week.tulips_hyacinths.jpg

And after a month and a half, this fabric is finally off my sewing table and/or ironing board.

I found the fabric for 50 cents a yard, and they go with these shoes

Once again, I am sorry for the rushed post, I have lots of photos to share and so many things have been happening. My Mom came down and visited last Friday and we had a great time. Hannah had her piano contest on Saturday. She received a 1 for her playing. We have been working in the garden and yard, still getting set up for the hens (thanks Jason for all of your help), playing/coaching soccer, dancing and tumbling, enjoying the warmer weather whenever possible.    Another favorite is seeing who can put the most clothes on in a day-Allison or Lizzie. And there are bonus points for wearing them long enough to get dirty. I can’t keep track of who is in the lead. Allison is here in her first dress of the day… :

We’ve been busy.

There are several reasons for a lack of posts.1. I’m without photoshop right now, not good at all…. that explains the tiny photos).2. We have been busy with the chicks, getting the garden ready, plants started, finding real chicken food for our girls to eat.3. School. 4. And  all the rest of the stuff that goes with life – work, church, family gatherings, cooking and reorganizing my kitchen… :)

Jason has been working on the house for the girls. They now have a floor and a door for privacy.

Mac’s enjoying the spring.

Martha jumped the coop (or rather, box) and found the books. Hasn’t she just grown more lovely?         I’ve also been trying to read through a couple of books. “The Art of Simple Food” by Alice Waters and “The Omnivore’s Dilemma” by Michael Pollan. Matheau has recently shared some great music with me. Two bands, one is “NEEDTOBREATHE” and the other is Addison Road. I will try to add links to them soon. Right now, I need to get some work done.

Week ten.

mosaic_week_ten.jpg

The past week was a blur, a good blur, but none the less, a blur. The week included some sunshine and the blooming of my hyacinths. Hyacinths have the most lovely fragrance. The girls have picked several for us to enjoy inside the house as well as out.

The chicks keep growing. They have lost most of their down and more feathers come in almost every time I check in on them. They peep all day and all night. I am beginning to wonder if I will miss their song when they move out doors. I do know I will be excited to not have to clean their litter so often to keep the smell to a minimum. :) Hannah spends a lot of time playing and training them. Trixie (the one on her arm in the photo) has mastered all sorts of tricks. You can see more on Hannah’s page. I showed her how to upload photos and she has been having a great time blogging. ;)

Besides caring for the chicks, some small sewing projects, classes, and making more preparations for the garden, we went to FCA State Conference this past weekend. It was a great chance to get away, eat cafeteria food and meet up with old friends and find some new. There were 780 students from high schools across the state. Matheau and Scott, a friend ours headed up a crew to allow different locations to view live video of the conference. Very cool to see it all come together. As the days warm up, I know things are just going to get busier, please check in with Hannah if you don’t happen to see anything new with me. :)

Week 9.

All photos were taken  in the kitchen this week. :)   mosaic_nine_kitchen.jpg

 April

by Sara Teasdale

The roofs are shining from the rain,

The sparrows twitter as they fly,

And with a windy April grace

The little clouds go by.

Yet the back yards are bare and brown

With only one unchanging tree-

I could not be so sure of Spring

Save that it sings in me.

Thankfully our back yard is changing to green, but our roofs are shining again this morning.

Planting seeds.

Besides planting outside, I  have started some seeds inside. It is my first time to try starting early, so we will see how I do…
