I have said it before, but I love this time of year. Even though I dread the cold of winter, I thoroughly enjoy this time of year. Soup and fresh bread tastes better, an occasional pie in the oven, the crunchy leaves under foot, the garden cleaned up for the winter, planting tulip and hyacinth bulbs for spring, pulling out winter hats and stockings, the pumpkins…

All these warm thoughts have me also thinking about the seasons of life, the ones that happen no matter what the weather is like. The smooth or rough ones of life and why sometimes they seem too hard and not to make sense. Right now I have friends waiting for adoptions to go through (that we thought would be finished by now) friends trying to have more children and month after month, still no new baby in the womb, financial hardships, love ones passing away way sooner then you would imagine, work issues… Going through and seeing others going through difficulties all the while knowing that God is working, but wondering how and why in these ways. One scripture just keeps coming back to me. In Romans 10 it says, “Scripture reassures us, No one who trusts God like this-heart and soul-will ever regret it.” And as I continue to pray for them, and our own seasons of life, that is what I believe, God is faithful and those who love Him, He will not forget.

Luke’s request: jumping off the hay bales at the pumpkin patch. Â Â

Yesterday morning the kids and I worked on the first stages of our garden for next year. Cleaning it up and moving leaves from the grass, to the garden to help mulch for the winter. There are rumors we will be getting snow later this week, so I need to clip the rest of my lavender today. Not only is it better for the plants to trim before winter, but I am also hoping to make some lavender bags for Christmas gifts this year. Â

Today a couple of our home groups went to the Powell Pumpkin Patch in Louisburg. The time with friends, pumpkins and weather was all perfect. (All photos courtesy of Matheau.

Since Hannah and Luke were 2 and under, I have looked forward to trips to the pumpkin patches. It is always an enjoyable day for us. I still like to pull out the past years photos and reminisce a bit. Today on our hayride I was talking to a Mom of a 15 year old who have  been going since her daughter was 3, I hope we are still making the trips when Lizzie is 15 as well.

My favorite season of the year is Autumn. Time for gingerbread, cappuccino and making woolens… and today is perfect – overcast, a bit of a chill in the air, but only cool enough to need a sweater…Today, I really need to be putting up more tomatoes, starting pie crusts and I still need to knit the second halves of several projects… but I will try to think about that on a less beautiful day.Â
