Zoo photos.
Matheau did not disappoint with his photos at the zoo. Incredible as always. These were some of my favorites. There are more over at facebook.

Only they now live at our house and will someday lay eggs. 17 chicks arrived yesterday morning. They all have been named and received much attention since then.

Saturday was a great day at the zoo. Feeding the birds and the gorilla were my favorites. Matheau took a bunch more photos, if he shares them with me, I’ll post some. He always captures some amazing ones at the zoo.
Sunday was a relaxing day at home. We only had one church service in the morning so we were home and fixing lunch before noon. A nice way to catch up from the fun-packed Saturday. Today, catching up from the weekend.
This is the joke of the last few weeks. It doesn’t seem like the kids can get enough of it.
Besides jokes, we have been busy finishing up school and soccer. Add in a few field trips here and there, some missing teeth and normal end of school stuff, extra kids hanging out over at our home, we have been quite busy.

Now, tomorrow we are headed to the K.C. Zoo. We can’t wait! And in case you were wondering, the “red” should be “read” and the answer is newspaper.
Besides for the rain, Spring includes a lot of soccer. Alli played on a U6 team, and Luke and Hannah played on a U10 team that Matheau coached. Monday night, at the end of soccer practice, they all ran and jumped through the mud so Mike Barrett (Dad and photographer) could snap this photo. In case you are wondering, Matheau didn’t jump in the mud, they just all showed him some love with a hug or two.

One) It is really great to be able to host part of a field trip at your own place. Especially if that includes learning how to plant asparagus.

I had never purchased an asparagus start before. This is what they look like. To plant, you dig a 10 in. deep trench and then lay the start in with the crown (one end has a bit of a “crown” look to it) a couple inches higher then the rest of the strands of stuff. Cover with two in. of dirt, and then in a couple of weeks, go cover with a couple more inches of dirt. In a couple of weeks, if ours hasn’t been taken with all the water we have, I’ll cover it again. I didn’t purchase much, so we will see. Another thing, try not to cut or eat any of the shoots for the first two years. The asparagus needs the extra nutrients from the sun to be really healthy and tasty for the following 15-20 years.
Two) Our local restaurant (burger place) has half/price drinks from 2-4. We celebrated asparagus planting with a soda and limeade.

Three) We may have wild mushrooms on some of our land? Not many, but does anyone know if these are them? Last year I thought I found some and was wrong, these look a bit different, so maybe…

Four) We do have wild asparagus on our land. Some of it tasted great, some was really tough.
Five) I really like Mexican Wedding Cake Cookies. But I am the only one in our house who does. I have been enjoying a lot of cookies.
Six) I love these Books of Days. I can’t wait to get the May issue.
I’m sure I learned more then the above, but I am in need of a cup of coffee. Have a great day!
